Thanksgiving

We have a lot to be thankful for at WinePress Group. We have great authors and editors; a staff that works hard and as a family; and the chance to play a significant role in the Christian publishing industry.

We want to thank all our authors, editors, and those who support WinePress. We are grateful every time one of our authors shares their experiences and gratitude.

Check out some of our author testimonials.

Play the video below for a special THANK YOU from our staff.

We pray that you have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday.

International Christian Retail Show

It’s that time a year again when we, at WinePress, start preparing for the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS). This year it takes place in wonderful Denver Colorado, July 12-15, 2009.

This long standing trade show allows retailers to see new books and products, meet authors, and gain training. I’ve personally attended for almost twenty years, my first in 1990. This event provides a wonderful chance to connect with friends in the industry.

I always feel a bit multi-personality at ICRS since I wear many hats—author, retailer, publisher, and publicist. I even attended a couple years wearing a Media badge, interviewing for articles and book reviews. But in doing so I’ve had the opportunity to view ICRS from many angles and it’s without a doubt a very productive show, and time well-spent for all those involved.

ICRS 2009 celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Christian Bookseller Association (CBA) trade show and they’re planning a spectacular event. There will be lots of activity going on and new opportunities for authors to network with retailers.

What’s the value for an author to attend ICRS?

It gives authors the chance to place their books into the hands of people who buy books for their stores. WinePress authors, who attend ICRS, personally sign and give away 150 copies to potential buyers.

Participating ICRS authors:

  • connect with international markets
  • connect with major bookstore chains in the Christian market
  • meet hundreds of retailers
  • network with other authors and people in the industry
  • see other books on the market
  • glean marketing ideas

This week WinePress will start inviting and gathering names of our authors who want to attend ICRS 2009. If you’re a Pleasant Word or WinePress author and interested in joining us, sign up at ICRS 2009. Watch for details.

Or if you’re a new author and would like your book published in time to attend this year contact our Solutions Advisors.

Watch this video to see why you will not want to miss ICRS 2009.

November: Adoption Awareness Month

November is Adoption Awareness Month, a subject very close to my own heart. My son Josiah and his wife Jayme adopted a little girl almost two years ago. Many of you know Josiah as the Art Director for WinePress and the Manager of Notation Printing and Promotions.

Without the help of one of our authors, Laura Christianson, I would have been one nervous Granny. (This is Eppie Grace on her “Gottcha Day” at court.)

WinePress has an extensive line of books on the subject of adoption. Here are a few:

The Adoption Network,Your Guide to Starting a Support System by Laura Christianson. Laura makes this book available for free to adoption ministries or those wanting to start support systems.

Letters and Reflections to My Adopted Daughters by Jody Moreen, Penned by John Newton, writer of the hymn, Amazing Grace

Adoption as a Ministry, Adoption as a Blessing by Michelle Gardner

Returned with Love, A Story of the Pain and Joy of Adoption by Katheryn J. Page

After the Dream Comes True, Post-Adoption Support for Christian Families by Michelle Gardner

All these books make great gifts for anyone who is thinking of adopting. It’s quite the process, and you definitely need a support system. These WinePress authors provide experience, encouragement, and wisdom you can use.

The M&Ms of Marketing

The keys to successful marketing have more in common with the popular color-coated candies than most people realize.

Jumpstart your personal marketing plan by focusing on the M&Ms:

1. Message

Consider what message you want to convey about your business. What makes you unique in your marketplace?

  • Is it your quality of service or product?
  • Is it your delivery of those services or products?
  • Is it your level of customer service?
  • It is your hours of operation?

Once you pinpoint your uniqueness, condense it into one short slogan, and promote it on all your advertising materials.

2. Method

Decide which advertising method(s) are realistic for your business.

M&Ms come in a variety of colors. So, too, there are many colorful avenues to market your business. Determine what method you will use for the first contact, second contact and so forth.

Marketing is a process, and your plan should detail each step you intend to take to achieve your goal.

3. Market

The most exciting marketing method is useless if it does not reach your targeted audience.

Focus your efforts on the top prospects you want to market to. Also consider those who have a sphere of referrals to promote your services.

Master these three key areas and you’ll discover that your marketing efforts will reap rewards.
