More about What If You Pray?
Tech support at any wireless phone company will tell you that the preferred set-up option to receive text messages is “Always On” rather than “When Needed.” Pastor Cushman has found that our communication with God should be “Always On” too. In his new book, What If You Pray? Experiencing the Reality of Prayer, Cushman illustrates the crucial nature of this personal communion with God and practical suggestions regarding how to go about doing it.
From the ordinary—standing in line at Home Depot, to the extraordinary—a physical healing directly linked to a specific prayer, the illustrations of continual communication with God in What If You Pray? are life-changing. Simple questions of prayer posture, tone, and wording are answered. The more complex prayer attitudes of joy, anger, sorrow, fear, and appreciation are addressed as well. Over seventy examples of personal and corporate prayers are included about topics as diverse as authenticity in worship, the search for employment, and remembering the terrorist attacks of September 11. Pastor Cushman also dares the reader to commit to the challenging and meaningful two-word prayers, use me, search me, stretch me, and lead me.

When 39-year-old Bruce MacKenzie was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, he responded, “I win either way. I win if God heals me on this earth and I can stay a while longer, and I win if God calls me home to heaven. But, either way, I win.”
Eleven months later, God did call Bruce home to heaven. In the aftermath of Bruce’s death, his wife of 17 years adjusted to her new role as a single parent to their two children, then ages 9 and 12. Lynn MacKenzie’s personal experience narrative, The Tear Catcher (WinePress, 2008), relates how God caught her tears and opened her heart to experiencing His unconditional love.
Rich Monteith, Station Manager of Moody Bible Institute’s KMBI Radio (107.9 FM / 1330 AM) will interview MacKenzie about her story and book in a pre-recorded interview.
“The Tear Catcher is more than a chronicle of the cancer journey I went through with my husband,” explains MacKenzie. “It is a book about hope—about seeing God in the visible as well as the invisible.”
Bruce’s cancer and subsequent death showed them God’s multifaceted character, says MacKenzie. “We learned to submit, which ultimately led to surrender. I discovered how God can take the nothingness of our lives and turn it into something beautiful. God doesn’t promise we won’t have tears, but He does promise to be there to catch them,” she adds. MacKenzie says she’s learned to “live each day as if it’s my last, and at the end of the day, to reflect whether I’ve lived my best.”

Dr. Todd Perla says the continual return of Jews to Jerusalem is a fulfillment of prophecy and a sign of things to come. “Israel is the barometer for which we know we are in the last days,” otherwise known as the “tribulation” or “end times.” A born again Christian, Dr. Perla has spent the past 23 years intensely studying Scripture. He is particularly passionate about end times prophecy discussed in the book of Revelation, as it harmonizes with the rest of The Bible.
Recently host Ron Meyers from WAOY Radio (FM 97.7) spoke with author Dr. Todd Perla about this topic and his new book, End Times Church Deception (WinePress, 2008).
In his writings, Dr. Perla emphasizes the rapture of the church occurring near the end of tribulation, a perspective that dates back to the early church fathers and is widely supported in ancient prophecies and teachings of great men such as Luther, Calvin, Spurgeon, and Wesley. “From the time of Christ’s ascension into heaven, Christians have eagerly anticipated his return. In recent times, more biblical prophecies have been fulfilled, setting the stage for the end times to unfold. The most important signpost for the beginning of the end is the nation of Israel.”
Perla writes to prepare Christians for the end times and the challenges marshaled in by the tribulation. Perla feels a right understanding of end times events is essential to avoid the end times church deception he writes about. “Time may be shorter than we think, and we need to be as committed to Christ as we can and make the most of every opportunity we have to serve the Lord and evangelize the lost.”
This pre-recorded interview will air at a later date and you can listen to it online as well.
