Ravaged by Alzheimers

The author of The Long Road to Goodbye: Our Journey with Alzheimer’s (Pleasant Word, 2008) understands this disease, personally. Statistically, nearly 50 percent of American seniors will have some form of dementia.

After nearly 50 years in the Methodist pastorate, Floyd and Wilma Fought eagerly anticipated their retirement. They dreamed of travel, leisurely days, long walks, and visits from grandchildren.

Then Wilma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Host Drew Damron from WEMM 107.9 FM, 1470 AM, and FM Internet Broadcast, learned more about Fought’s journey with Wilma on during an interview on June 28th, to be broadcast at a later date.

The Long Road to Goodbye: Our Journey with Alzheimer’s recounts Floyd’s experience with Wilma from the moment they discovered her illness until the day she received “full healing” by graduating to heaven. But rather than just a memoir, this book is part instruction manual, part devotional guide—and a major inspiration to anyone caring for a terminally ill loved one.

Early on, Floyd decided to be Wilma’s 24/7 caregiver in an effort to avoid institutionalizing her. Using creativity and improvisation, he took on the duties of housekeeper, launderer, seamstress, beautician, chef, and nurse. As the disease progressed, Floyd realized how critical his choice was not only for Wilma’s comfort but for his own peace of mind. While she benefited from his compassion, he gained a deeper love for his wife and a richer understanding of his faith.

Whether you are a caregiver, a loving spouse, or simply a Christian looking to strengthen your bond with the Lord, this book will motivate you to seek God’s will in all situations. Join Floyd Fought as he takes you on The Long Road to Goodbye.

Guess What? A Woman ‘Can’ Change!

If you’ll set your dial to WFUO 850 AM at 4:30 pm Eastern Time (2:30 pm (Pacific Time) you’ll find out with the Afternoon Show host Steve Siegel about how a woman can change.

Author Claudia Ward wrote about this subject in her new book, Who Says a Woman Can’t Change? 8 Ways to Prove She Can! (WinePress, 2008).

Through the principal of the “Four Stays” method of change, Ward shows readers how to achieve the four attributes women desire most: security, self-esteem, serenity, and significance. Who Says a Woman Can’t Change? teaches women how to rearrange their priorities, goals, and interests by helping them focus in on the inner
woman, which then causes them to thirst for God’s Word and create a heightened concern and love for others.

Says Ward about her book:

“Women long for a change in their lives but they don’t know how that might happen. Most women believe change only takes place on the outside. No one in their sphere of influence has talked about the inside, so they don’t realize that only God can change us from the inside out. To illustrate the adage, ‘As the twig is bent, so grows the tree,’ no matter how crooked life makes us, the Word of God can straighten us out, by His grace, power, and Spirit.”

Are You Ready?

Join host Dudley Donaldson tonight for a live interview with author, Dr. Todd Perla. The topic of discussion will be his new book, End Times Church Deception: Are You Ready? (WinePress, 2008)

Tune into WHEM 91.3 FM at 5:10 pm Central time to find out if you are ready for the end times.

Perla emphasizes the rapture of the church occurring near the end of tribulation, a perspective that dates back to the early church fathers and is widely supported in ancient prophecies and teachings of great men such as Luther, Calvin, Spurgeon, and Wesley. “From the time of Christ’s ascension into heaven, Christians have eagerly anticipated his return. In recent times, more biblical prophecies have been fulfilled, setting the stage for the end times to unfold. The most important signpost for the beginning of the end is the nation of Israel.”

Perla writes to prepare Christians for the end times and the challenges marshaled in by the tribulation. Perla feels a right understanding of end times events is essential to avoid the end times church deception he writes about. “Time may be shorter than we think, and we need to be as committed to Christ as we can and make the most of every opportunity we have to serve the Lord and evangelize the lost.”
