‘Out of the Forest: ‘An In-Depth Look at 2 Samuel 18:8

Brother Ron Miller, host of The Bible Breakfast Club, explored this little known scripture with Pleasant Word author Rick Brown on WBFI-FM radio heard over the greater Kentucky area.

Does your life exhibit the abundance and adventure Jesus described, or are you trapped in a safe, untested and monotonous existence? Out of the Forest: Re-Engaging in God’s Call to Purpose can provide direction.

In this book, author Brown explores an obscure but profound passage found in 2 Samuel 18:8. Describing a battle during Absalom’s rebellion, the Scripture says: “The battle spread … and the forest claimed more lives that day than the sword.” With wit and encouragement, Brown discusses some of the reasons people are still running to their own forests, and provides hope for re-emerging into a life of purpose.

“Rick has fired a literary flare in the air, announcing a way out of spiritual mediocrity for all those who have somehow lost their way. Practical, insightful and grounded in a consistent life, Out of the Forest is a clarion call to reconnect, renew and realize.”
—Neil McClendon, Lead Pastor, Grand Parkway Baptist Church, Sugar Land, Texas

“Rick’s book will challenge and encourage you. I especially love the chapter on finding beauty…that’s so important for the church. And I laughed out loud at the story of ‘the nod.’ This is good stuff!”
—Robbie Seay, Worship Leader and Recording Artist

‘ Straight Talk’ Host Interviews Pleasant Word Author

Straight Talk host Zipporah Mondy spoke with Pleasant Word author Kenneth Nichols about his book, Strong Enough to Be a Man, Gentle Enough to Please a Woman on March 27th. The pre-recorded interview will be aired at a later date on KJIW-FM radio and can be heard in Helena and Pine Bluff, AR and Greenville, MS.

About Strong Enough to Be a Man, Gentle Enough to Please a Woman:

Are you looking to spice up your marriage and strengthen your relationship? Here’s your chance. Kenneth Nichols has some answers for you, showing how to increase intimacy in your marriage, or forthcoming marriage, along with other aspects of a successful relationship. He deals with three types of communication, how to affirm and build up each other, and how to achieve healing when one offends the other inadvertently or willfully.

Building on biblical principles, Nichols cites many verses and passages of Scripture that convey healthy ways to relate to one another, even as God relates to us. The author goes to the center of relationships, from the heart, feelings, and intent to outward actions that can either help or hinder a strong bond between a man and a woman.

Pleasant Word Author Proud of Professional Book

As you know, we’re always glad to share the comments of some of our many satisfied authors who have let us know about their experiences with WinePress Group. Today is no exception! You can see below the feedback from Bart Jahn, author of The Second Half of the Cross:

Hello,

I just wanted to say to you and all of the staff at Winepress…thanks for producing a great book. I have gotten several compliments on the front and back covers, and the professional look of the book. Several people have also given me some encouraging feedback on how the message of the book spoke to them. So please pass along my thanks to the cover designer, the back cover writer, the inside text designer, and the text editors. This is a book that I can be proud of for years to come.

Bart Jahn

About The Second Half of the Cross:

Nearly everyone in most parts of the world has heard something about Christianity and being saved from sin and given eternal life because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. This is what author Bart Jahn calls the first half of the cross. But he says the second half of the cross—abandoning one’s plans and submitting his life totally to God—is equally important but is missing in the lives of most Christians.

He says when someone becomes a Christian, he or she repents and turns from the old life. But soon this person takes back control and lives according to his own self-will and old ways of thinking. He has followed the first half of the cross to salvation, but he has missed the second half in which he relinquishes control to God and follows His plan for life.

This book answers questions like:

  • Besides accepting Jesus as your Savior, what else does being a Christian mean in your life?
  • How does your faith show itself in your thoughts, plans, words, and actions?
  • Whose plan are you following—yours or God’s?

Jahn shows how God’s plan will outshine what you could have hoped for and will provide you with joy and fulfillment, in addition to benefits to others. He shows how people of faith in the Bible left their own plans to follow God with great results, as they completed the purpose He had for them.

If you’re ready to take the next step of faith—and allow God to work out His marvelous plan in your life—this book will get you started on that exciting path.

Valder Beebe Requests a Second Interview from WinePress Author

Apparently things went so well with WinePress author Dorothy Valcarcel and her book, The Man Who Loved Women, that Valder Beebe, host of the Valder Beebe Show, invited her to visit a second time!

How can a man who had no wife, no children, no home, no job, no money, and wandered the hills of Judea with twelve men relate to women of his time, much less women in the 21st century?

That’s the question that led author Dorothy Valcaŕcel to search for biblical women whose lives intersected with Jesus. As she explored the lives of every woman Jesus met, she discovered that they faced many of the same challenges women encounter today.

In The Man Who Loved Women, women readers will find their own story in the lives of eighteen New Testament women. Their common bond? All of them met Jesus. The more time they spent with Him, the more they reflected Him, until the scars of their broken past transformed into beauty marks.

You’ll meet Mary, trying to raise a perfect child in an imperfect world…Joanna, whose “Mr. Right” and his money could not buy her health or happiness…Martha, whose busywork distracted her from life’s most meaningful moments…and many more.

As their stories unfold, so will your own. Each chapter includes “A Time for Reflection” – a study guide designed to help you transform your own life. You can:

  • Explore your desire for change through end-of-chapter discussion questions.
  • Discover the transformational love of Jesus through inspirational passages.
  • Strengthen your connection to Jesus through daily affirmations.

Through these inspiring stories about real women with real problems, you will discover an everlasting love that lifts you up, holds you tight, and never lets you go.
