The John Pendleton Show, based out of Jacksonville, Florida, is a well-known, conservative talk show that has interviewed the likes of General Tommy Franks, Ann Coulter, Bernard Goldberg and Mary Matalin, just to drop a few names.
John Klar visited with John Pendleton live on his show yesterday to discuss George W. Bush and Klar’s new book Christian Words, Un-Christian Actions.
Christians are called by the New Testament to emulate the example of Jesus Christ, and to shed their past lives and become more like Him. Is a nation that calls itself Christian exempted from this mandate? Have America’s Christians held their country’s government accountable to Christian standards?
George W. Bush gained the White House by bearing the standard of Christian faith. But if George W. actually represented just more politics as usual, and not a shift in the Oval Office toward Christian integrity, wouldn’t the American Christians who trusted him want to know?
Jesus Christ warned specifically and repeatedly that His followers must “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:15-16) Paul also emphasized the same warning over and over, sometimes very powerfully. (Acts 20:28-31) If Jesus and Paul said it would be so, then indeed many Christians will in fact be deceived by such a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
This book cries wolf, and admonishes Christians to heed the actions of those who proclaim Christ as Lord, for words without action are worse than nothing–they are Satan’s effort to deceive. Is it enough that George W. “appears” pious? Are Christians to then ignore Christ’s admonition, to watch for a man’s fruits, because a man feigns piety? Is it relevant whether Mr. Bush “believes” he is a good Christian, if in fact his conduct demonstrates otherwise? Americans must employ vigilance to keep their eyes on Jesus Christ, and not permit their spiritual vision to be clouded by any worldly leader, including Bush W.
