Holy Hormones
The path to publication can be difficult and frightening to maneuver with numerous pitfalls along the way. Dr. J. Ron Eaker, who is looking forward to the release of his new book by one of the major Christian publishing houses this summer, says it’s a road he may have chosen to pass up if it hadn’t been for WinePress Publishing.
“As an unknown author without a platform, it’s easy to get discouraged when talking to the acquisition editors of traditional publishing houses,” says Eaker. “I knew the information I had learned through my years of medical practice as an OB/GYN would be very beneficial to women. I had a passion to share it but was frustrated by the publishing process.”
Eaker says he would not have considered self-publishing if he hadn’t been impressed by the professionalism of WinePress staff. “As a physician, I have high expectations and am used to working with professionals. I wanted my book to not only look professional but I expected to work with an editor who would polish the manuscript.”
In 2005, Eaker chose Winepress to publish Holy Hormones for him. Impressed by the stellar sales of Holy Hormones, Bethany House Publishing Company offered Eakers a two book contract. Fat Proof Your Family: Gods Way to Forming Healthy Habits for Life will be released in July and un updated version of Holy Hormones is scheduled for 2008.
Eaker says what distinguishes WinePress from other self-publishing companies is a commitment to produce a quality product. “It amazed me how many self-publishers are out there and, unfortunately, not all produce a quality product. This tarnishes industry just like a bad doctor can infect an entire group.”
Eaker says WinePress worked with him every step of the way to produce a top notch product that rivals anything put out by a traditional publishing house. When the book was released, he also choose WinePress to help with publicity. “They got us hooked up with a wonderful publicist who was able to open doors for me. A true professional, she also explained that publicity is a partnership and that it was my responsibility to take advantage of the opportunities.”
With the release of his new book just months away, Eaker says he is grateful for the experience he’s had with publishing. “If it hadn’t been for Athena Dean and WinePress, I would have never had the motivation or inspiration to put on paper what God has laid on my heart. She helped me to navigate a difficult industry.”
